FY2023 Food for Progress Awards Announcement

Since its establishment in 1985, Food for Progress (FFPr) has helped developing countries strengthen their agricultural sectors. All FFPr projects operate within the overarching goals of increasing agricultural productivity and expanding markets and trade of agricultural products. For FY23 Food for Progress is excited to announce the following projects: 

 

Country: Bangladesh  
Implementer: ACDI/VOCA 
Total Agreement Value: $34,365,000  
Commodity Monetized: 50,000 MT soybeans 

Food for Progress Bangladesh will work with smallholder farmers to strengthen their livestock support systems including through improved animal health services, increased access to credit for tackling climate issues, and better Research and Development to lower methane emissions.  

 

Country: Cote d’Ivoire 
Implementer: TechnoServe 
Total Agreement Value: $34,770,571.61 
Commodity Monetized: 50,000 MT soybean meal 

Food for Progress Cote d’Ivoire will increase food security and environmental sustainability by helping producers improve tilapia and mango productivity, build climate resilience into their business models, and increase efficiency throughout the value chains. 

 

Country: The Gambia 
Implementer: Shelter for Life 
Total Agreement Value: $27,700,000.00 
Commodity Monetized: 40,000 MT soybean meal 

Food for Progress the Gambia will improve food security and expand the trade of horticulture products locally and internationally by working with smallholder farmers to double fruit and vegetable productivity and improve the trade-enabling environment with better sanitary and phytosanitary standards.  

 

Country: Lesotho 
Implementer: Venture 37 
Total Agreement Value: $31,392,529.00 
Commodity Monetized: 50,000 MT wheat 

Food for Progress Lesotho will support the transformation of the poultry sector by improving the profitability and productivity for poultry and eggs producers for a more food-secure Lesotho.   

 

Country: Mauritania 
Implementer: Partners of the Americas 
Total Agreement Value: $36,150,000  
Commodity Monetized: 60,000 MT wheat 

Food for Progress Mauritania will work to provide a stable source of fruits and vegetables for Mauritanians by increasing productivity in mangoes, tomatoes, carrots, potatoes, and onions. Through the development of better support services for farmers and the use of regenerative agricultural approaches, the project looks to create a more sustainable agricultural sector for the long-term.  

 

Country: Nepal 
Implementer: Lutheran World Relief 
Total Agreement Value: $33,560,500.00 
Commodity Monetized: 30,000 MT soybeans and 20,000 MT wheat 

Food for Progress Nepal will strengthen the aquaculture sector by focusing on three overarching components, including increasing productivity and expansion of trade of four key fish species, improving access to finance and end-market linkages, and strengthening Nepalese research and governments institutions.

Food for Progress Togo will work with smallholder farmers to sustainably increase yields, expand processing, improve access to finance and marketing, and decrease post-harvest losses in the cassava, okra, and hot pepper value chains.
