China: Citrus Annual

  |   Attaché Report (GAIN)

Post forecasts MY 2017/18 orange production at 7.3 million MT, up 4 percent from the previous year’s revised estimate as a result of favorable weather and diminished impact from citrus greening. Increased yields in younger orchards in western China also support the rise in production. Chinese tangerine/mandarin producers have also benefited from the same circumstances this year with MY 2017/18 production forecast at 21.2 million MT, up 3 percent from the previous year’s revised estimate. Despite increased production, Chinese orange imports are expected to grow due to robust consumer demand for high-quality and counter-seasonal fruit.
