As fall approaches, September celebrates the most-consumed meat in the United States: chicken. Two-thirds of U.S. chicken are raised in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, and Texas. And did you know that U.S. chicken meat is also a top agricultural export for our nation?

FAS helps minority farmers gain traction in international trade as well as growing and promoting their businesses.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture Deputy Secretary Xochitl Torres Small will lead the first-ever U.S. agribusiness trade mission to Luanda, Angola on Nov. 28 – Dec. 1. USDA Foreign Agricultural Service is now accepting applications from U.S. exporters who wish to participate in this trade mission.

Accurate crop mapping is a crucial process to informing reliable crop production estimates, addressing climate change, and developing strategies for sustainable agriculture. May is World Trade Month, and USDA's Foreign Agricultural Service is marking the occasion by sharing some of the most recent facts and figures about U.S. agricultural trade.

Through the Faculty Exchange Program, USDA awarded Tuskegee $400,000 to host the Faculty Exchange Program for visiting agricultural and veterinary educators from Africa. Working side-by-side with faculty mentors at the prestigious university, the fellows have spent the semester focusing on new teaching techniques, curriculum development, and research in areas including animal health, feed quality and safety, phytosanitary measures, and grading and standards.

With research and development funds provided by the FAS Technical Assistance for Specialty Crops Program, FAS and ARS are working to produce compostable PLU labels. They are collaborating with the International Fresh Produce Association and Sinclair Systems International to meet the EU standards. The goal is to develop adhesives that are both food-safe and compostable. When achieved, this will allow American companies to export fruits and vegetables as usual while helping to decrease food waste and methane emissions.

Under Secretary Alexis Taylor is in Amsterdam with agribusinesses, farm organizations, and state government leaders on a trade mission to expand economic opportunities for American agriculture.

U.S. Department of Agriculture Under Secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs Alexis M. Taylor will lead USDA’s first-ever regional agribusiness trade mission to the Netherlands between April 17-20.

USDA's Under Secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs Alexis Taylor arrived in Panama City today to launch an agribusiness trade mission. Taylor and a delegation of representatives from agribusiness and farm organizations and state departments of agriculture look to develop stronger ties and build economic partnerships between the United States and Panama and markets throughout CAFTA-DR region.

USDA's Under Secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs Alexis M. Taylor will lead a delegation of 26 agribusinesses and farm organizations to Panama City, Panama, from March 19 to 23.
