China: New and Renewed Biosafety Certificates Issued Including First Ever For Gene-Edited Event

On April 28, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA) announced the issuance of new and renewed biosafety certificates for domestic cultivation and production of 113 genetically engineered (GE) events and the first ever biosafety certificate for a gene-edited event. The announcement includes 112 biosafety certificate renewals for GE cotton, one new certificate for a GE soybean event, and one new biosafety certificate for a gene-edited soybean event. No new or renewed biosafety certificates for GE events for import as processing materials were issued.
