Trade Agreements and International Activities

FAS participates in the NAFTA Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS)/Technical Barriers To Trade (TBT) Committees, Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), international standard-setting organizations (The CODEX Alimentarius Committee (CODEX), World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC), International Standards Organizations (ISO)) and other trade related activities to ensure that U.S. interests are represented in these fora, and to promote consistency among WTO member countries in the application of the SPS and TBT Agreements on national measures.

Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) Factsheets

Other FAS Bilateral Agreements
Several agencies within the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) have bilateral agreements with other countries.  This fact sheet focuses on agreements negotiated by and with USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service.  These agreements are designed to strengthen agricultural ties.  By working together on policy and technical issues, bilateral agreements foster cooperation between the United States and its trade partners.  They provide a framework under which governments can openly discuss issues such as agribusiness, trade development, agricultural reform, and mutually beneficial cooperation.
