On February 1, 2009, the U.S.-Peru Trade Promotion Agreement (PTPA) entered into force, a historic milestone in political and economic relations between the United States and Peru.

The United States is Peru’s top trading partner, accounting for over $4.3 billion in Peruvian imports in 2009. In the same period, Peruvian exports to the United States totaled over $4.6 billion. Corn, wheat and soybean meal were the top agricultural products that Peru imported from the United States in 2009. The 2009 sales were $97 million, $81 million and $70 million respectively.
